Douglas County Genealogical Society

This collection includes issues of The Pioneer (the quarterly newsletter of the Society) as well as directories, various indexes compiled by members of the Society, and other resources of interest to genealogists and researchers studying the history of Lawrence and Douglas County, Kansas.

Douglas County Historical Society and Watkins Museum of History

This historical society has thousands of photographs and documents pertaining to the history of Douglas County, Kansas and its people. These are available to researchers in the Archives of Watkins Museum of History.

Kansas Genealogical Society & Online Library

This society maintains an extensive library holding books, manuscripts, vital records, cemetery records and census records. Its primary focus is on the State of Kansas. However, the collection does include some records of national and international interest.

Kansas Historical Society

Designated as the trustee of the state in 1879 and as the repository of official government records in 1905, the Historical Society collects and preserves the story of Kansas history.

Kenneth Spencer Research Library

The Kansas Collection of the research library provides researchers with primary source materials that document the history of Kansas and the region. This includes the following: African American Experience, Douglas County Records, and Photographs, Papers and Records of Life in Kansas and the Great Plains.

Old Castle Museum at Baker University

This museum provides online digital collections, as well as online archives.

University Archives, University of Kansas

This is the repository for the records documenting the history of the University of Kansas. Many records and photos are digitized and available on the website, and you may follow up with their staff for further help.

Wakarusa River Valley Museum

This museum documents the region's history, which was key for the Underground Railroad and a hotbed of abolitionism. The museum houses a variety of historical and genealogical records.
