The Big Event

"We are looking forward to serving the Lawrence community again with student and staff volunteers on April 23, 2022!"
2021 Statistics
The Big Event is a non-need-based student group that connects the KU campus with the Lawrence community. By recruiting thousands of student, faculty, and staff volunteers to work at hundreds of local job sites during one day of service, we are able to say thank you to the community that surrounds us all year. The Big Event volunteers provide a helping hand to Lawrence residents by completing projects in their neighborhoods.
The service impulse continued with The Big Event returning to action in the spring. 413 volunteers tended to 88 Lawrence job sites, bridging the bridging the campus and Lawrence community gap with clippers, rakes and shovels.

"I like how involved the volunteers were able to be. We really went and did all the activities ourselves and interacting with the people helping. I felt a part of a community!"
