Former KU Basketball Standout B.H. Born Dies

All-American B.H. Born, a member of the 1952 NCAA National Championship basketball team, died on February 3, 2013, in Peoria, Ill. Born was 80.



Born was originally from Medicine Lodge, KS, and played for Phog Allen at the University of Kansas between 1952-54.  The 6-foot-9 center played for three conference champion teams which won 63 games, losing only 14. He was named the most outstanding player during the 1953 NCAA title game where KU lost to Indiana 69-68.



After his time at KU, Born played AAU basketball in Peoria.  He was drafted by the NBA's Fort Wayne Pistons in 1954, but did not join the team.



Born's jersey was retired in 1992 during a ceremony honoring the 1952 National Champions.  He was inducted into the KU Athletics Hall of Fame, The Kansas Sports Hall of Fame and the Greater Peoria Sports Hall of Fame.
