8th Annual Sweet Spot Tournament Sets New Records
April 1, 2024 - LAWRENCE, KANSAS - The University of Kansas Esports community celebrated a triumphant turnout at the 8th Annual Sweet Spot Tournament, held in partnership with KU's Smash Club. With 315 registered participants and over 3,000 enthusiastic attendees, the event continues to be the largest smash tournament in Kansas.
The tournament included titles Super Smash Bros., Street Fighter, and more, and captivated both live and online audiences. Viewership numbers soared, showcasing the growing popularity of competitive gaming within the KU community.
Launched as a KU Memorial Union Program in 2019, Kansas Esports has experienced remarkable growth expanding to include teams competing in popular titles such as League of Legends, Valorant, Overwatch, Rocket League, and Super Smash Bros. With support and supervision from the Union and a commitment to student development, Esports has continued to excel in the collegiate esports space. Located on Level 4 of the Kansas Union, Kansas Esports continues to thrive with support from various stakeholders, including faculty, staff, students, and community partners.
